Ecological Modelling

Master's in Biology, ecology, evolution

Master’s program offered jointly by AGROCAMPUS OUEST and Université de Rennes 1.

The principal objective of this master’s program is to train students with a background in biology or ecology in the intellectual process and techniques of modelling. In all areas of these disciplines, scientists are required to analyse very large volumes of data subject to multiple interactions. Here, models can offer a means of describing and understanding complex phenomena, and ecological modelling thus offers a growing contribution.

It prepares students for the use of modelling techniques. While the main subject dealt with is ecology, students holding this program qualification will be able to apply these techniques, as a methodological specialism, to many other areas of biology or environmental science. Lessons are based on intuition and interaction between theory and experience (observations, measurements, sampling, etc.), in order to provide training in the mathematical tools and concepts used in modelling.

Enrolments in 1st year (M1) and 2nd year (M2) take place at Université de Rennes 1.
